FMEE Broadcast #2

February 2023

Over a year since I recorded the first Free Movement Energy Exchange. Always having the follow up at the back of my mind I have agonised over numerous themes, different stories to tell and which pieces of music speak to me the most. All of which remain firmly under development. Recently the ever present yet gentle tug deeper into roots reggae and dub has felt a little stronger. With the urge to record something outweighing the possibilities of three Bardo’s I have pulled together some restoration for a full body listening session. A collection of reggae music to carry us through the dragging winter, to find solace in a time of hibernation and recovery.

Journey inside yourself, find some inner peace and give thanks for this beautiful world we live in. Sharing this music with you is my thanks to the artists and engineers who experimented with their creativity, recording in this era of anything goes and less is more.

Whilst the context of reggae music is often relating to the history and consequences of colonialism and slavery the messaging of freedom, peace, and united love stand proud and true throughout. The music is both a humble reminder and an uplifting force towards overcoming any adversity. It’s deep, powerful, passionate and positive.

The session turned out to be three hours long, which I am aware most people don’t have time for this in one sitting (and the Mixcloud restrictions are a pain) so I have split it in two. The first half is more roots and the second half takes it down a notch with a dub focus.
